History and R&D
UAV engineering since 2009. Since 2024, exclusively in support of FAE surveys.
FAE has designed and built UAV platforms since 2009. Since 2024, this capability has been used exclusively in-house. The experience gained in sensor integration and operational workflow development underpins today’s services.

Milestones
From platform engineering to an integrated service.
- 2009
UAV engineering begins
FAE begins designing and building its own platforms, initially for aerial photography.
- 2012
FAE Drones S.R.L. is established
The company is registered in Bucharest and continues developing and operating its own platforms.
- 2014
The first photogrammetric surveys
FAE carries out its first airborne photogrammetric surveys using an autopilot and flight planned in photogrammetric strips.
- 2019
Experimental Bucharest–Alba Iulia flight
260 km across the Carpathians in a flight reported by ProTV as a world first. A research milestone presented in the context of its publication on 1 November 2019.
- 2015–2019
Public visibility and research
FAE’s work is documented in the national press and in a technical paper published in 2019.
- 2024
The transition to services only
FAE ends the sale of drones to third parties. Research, design and construction remain exclusively in-house capabilities supporting airborne measurement services.
- Today
In-house engineering for services
FAE applies its design, integration and operating experience to LiDAR, photogrammetry and specialist-sensor measurements.
The 2019 flight report
The press documents the engineering experience behind the flight. The experiment's parameters remain in their historical context.
R&D heritage
The FAE platform archive.

Research heritage
SolarDrone documents a chapter of FAE research.
The domain preserves the project as a Romanian-language R&D archive. The materials belong to that archive and do not indicate an active product, programme or commercial offer.
Current services
Experience from the archive works in today’s FAE services.
